Mark Smith
Art Biography of Mark Smith
Although an iron worker by trade, Mark is an artist by passion. He grew up in a home that celebrated artistic endeavours: where an appreciation of music and two-dimensional art was natural. And though he has had no formal art training much of his skill and talent is the result of genetics and pure personal dedication.
Mark's first works were accomplished in the medium of "brushed charcoal" - a technique developed by his father - where his attention to detail, accuracy and design was apparent from the very beginning. By doing a wide range of portraiture he acquired quite a number of commissions and is currently included in several personal art collections in Ontario and British Columbia. His desire was to do more, however, and after experimenting with a variety of media he transferred the "brushed technique" to chalk pastels. He may now be rightfully known as the premiere "brushed chalk pastel" artist in the world and his meticulous pieces "speak for themselves" as he says.
Mark has taken "photo-realism" into the realms of the human form, scenic beauty and now wildlife. His appreciation of nature is his motivation and the unique beauty of a single subject can captivate him until it finally emerges as his next new and vibrant piece of artwork.
His work may now be obtained through King's Framing and Art Gallery of Corbeil, Ontario [telephone: 705-752-4211; website: www.kingsframingandartgallery.com] where he is currently a member of "The Consolidated Group of 7's".
