A more affordable yet still exceptionally high-quality alternative to 100% cotton, Winsor & Newton Classic Pads contains cellulose wood pulp paper. This watercolour paper will not warp or cockle even when saturated with large volumes of water. Multiple layers of paint can therefore be applied to create more depth. The Winsor & Newton Classic Pad may withstand the roughest of editing techniques and colours remain brilliant and intense, even when dry.

This paper is available by the sheet, in gummed pads and spiral pads. It can be used with watercolour, gouache, ink and acrylic paints.

This is a top gummed pad of 12 sheets of 300gsm watercolour paper.

Winsor & Newton Watercolour Classic Pads Cold Pressed - Cold pressed paper has a less textured finish and is the most widely used paper surface. This paper often produces the brightest watercolour paintings because its increased surface area holds more colour and therefore reflects more light.

Formed in a cylinder mould, our water colour papers look as if they were made by hand. This cold-pressed pad has a medium grain and is thought to produce the brightest watercolour paintings. This is because the increased surface area reflects more light. All of our watercolour papers are designed to withstand saturation, so you can be confident the paper won't cockle.

In addition, the archival grade cellulose wood pulp paper is made from the finest grade wood pulp and natural artesian well spring water with neutral ph properties. This offers an extremely resilient, high performance paper that looks and feels handmade.

To transform these raw ingredients into the finest quality paper calls for an artisan production process. All of Winsor & Newton's papers are made on a traditional cylinder mould at the paper mill, following a practice that dates back to the 19th century. There are only a few remaining cylinder mould machines in the world.

A slowly rotating cylinder mould picks up the paper stock and puts it onto a continuously moving woollen felt. The cotton or cellulose wood pulp fibers are dispersed and interwoven, giving the paper greater strength and dimensional stability.

This production process provides the individual character of handmade papers such as clear watermarks and deckle edges and each and every sheet is inspected by hand before leaving the paper mill.

Acid free and with no optical brighteners, both Winsor & Newton 100% cotton and archival grade cellulose wood pulp paper ranges offer brighter natural whiteness. They are also made to the highest possible archival standards, so will not yellow or degrade over time.

Designed and realised to be the finest, high performing luxury papers available today, choose greatness with Winsor & Newton.
