Exploration of this colour reveals some surprising pigment properties beyond its apparent opacity. Ideal for aged and weathered wood, fence posts and old buildings are fine candidates for this pigment and approach. Try this: Overpaint a value sketch with a light glaze. As graphite pencil is entirely acceptable in watercolour, a synthetic graphite pigment, namely Graphite Gray, seems surprisingly natural.Graphite Gray (PBk10) Gris Graphite

Description: Daniel Smith Extra Fine Watercolour Graphite Gray 15ml
Exploration of this colour reveals some surprising pigment properties beyond its apparent opacity. First, Graphite Gray disperses well and quickly in water, so floating the dense pigment onto the water or into a wet wash offers an interesting handling method. A dry brushstroke is quickly followed by a wet brushstroke spread, some of the pigment leaving the texture look of the drybrush. Aged and weathered wood, fence posts and old buildings are fine candidates for this pigment and approach. Try this: Overpaint a value sketch with a light glaze. As graphite pencil is entirely acceptable in watercolour, a synthetic graphite pigment, namely Graphite Gray, seems surprisingly natural. Many traditional colours are relied upon by all artists, and there are many “truly unique” colours made only by DANIEL SMITH, which have become essential to watercolour artists. PrimaTek Watercolours are made from minerals, often semi-precious minerals, which have been ground into pigments, mixed with gum arabic (the binder) and milled into PrimaTek Watercolours. The first was Lapis Lazuli Genuine in 1998; since then, many more have been added, colours such as Amethyst Genuine, Piemontite Genuine and Serpentine Genuine. Most of these colours have excellent granulating effects that some artists have called “magical.” Luminescent Watercolours have special optical effects perfect for subjects that have a sparkle, sheen, or reflective glow, like the iridescence of hummingbird feathers or the sheen of metals. Cadmium Hues, DANIEL SMITH, has developed safe and vibrant Cadmium Hues with the density and richness of cadmium colours without the cadmium pigment. Virtually identical in colour to their namesakes, they are cleaner in mixtures and much more robust in tints. The functional properties - staining power, semi-transparency and excellent lightfastness - are nearly identical to those of the low-soluble cadmium colours DANIEL SMITH previously manufactured. Other Unique Watercolours from pigments that DANIEL SMITH has sourced, often from particular locations, colours like Burgundy Yellow Ochre, Monte Amiata Natural Sienna and Roasted French Ochre. Some are created exclusively by DANIEL SMITH, such as Cascade Green, Deep Sap Green and Green Gold. DANIEL SMITH also finds unusual pigments to make colours like Anthraquinoid Scarlet, Lunar Blue, and Enviro-Friendly Red Iron Oxide to provide more choices for artists.Graphite Gray (PBk10) Gris Graphite
