Ivory black (or Bone black) is a semi-transparent, warm black. Because it is semi-transparent, it can darken transparent colours without overpowering them.

Daniel Smith Ivory Black is a warm, semi-transparent pigment leaning toward an opaque hue. Historically, this black was derived from burnt ivory from an endangered species. Thankfully, this is no longer the practice. Ivory Black, touched with yellow, creates a blackened green that is excellent for backlit foliage. Think Sumi and hand-painted stone lithographs. This colour can be used to darken transparent pigments.

With DANIEL SMITH Watercolour Sticks, you can:

• Draw directly onto dry or wet paper for different line characteristics.
