Good pencil drawings start with a good graphite pencil!

Charcoal pencils offer more control than sticks of charcoal and are a popular addition for expressive drawing and life drawing, allowing you more control.  This traditional art material is encased in quality wood. With the choice of light, medium and dark charcoal, you have everything you require to add different tones.

These cedar-barreled charcoal pencils are excellent for detail work and have the highest quality flexible charcoal. The absence of imperfections assures scratch-free marks.

Good pencil drawings start with a good graphite pencil!

Derwent charcoal pencils are made from natural charcoal particles mixed with the finest clays and encased in a cedar wood barrel. An extensive tonal range can also be achieved if water is used. Wet a previously worked area for even darker tones, allow it to dry and then work on it again. Use a putty rubber to 'take out' tone as required for even lighter tones.

Artists have chosen and trusted the Derwent® brand for art materials worldwide for generations. Derwent 'Professional Quality' since 1832, is aimed at the professional artist or leisure artist that requires the best quality drawing products from graphite, colouring pencils, or watercolour pencils and pens, in addition to the range, including the Inktense and the improved Graphic range.

  • Derwent Charcoal Pencils offer easier sharpening than traditional charcoal sticks, with less breakage.
  • Available in light, medium, and dark shades, the pencils come pre-sharpened.
