No ox-gall is used in the process of manufacture to keep watercolours moist in the tube, and made in Japan.

This extra-fine, European-style transparent watercolour, known for its purity, permanence and brilliance, preserves the brush handling qualities inherent in Japanese watercolour techniques. Because it contains no ox-gall, animal by-products or other dispersing agents, Holbein watercolour moves slowly, allowing for greater colour density and brush control. It has a creamy texture that remains smooth when dry and will not crack, crumble, chip or mould in the palette. To use, fill the wells of a palette with the desired colour, permit it to dry, then wet the colour as if it were a pan colour.
