Sennelier’s range Green for Oil has been designed to be a safer, greener alternative to traditional solvents, with all the ingredients being part of the bio-solvent family.
These eco-friendly solvents are created from renewable raw materials that are found naturally. They are sourced fromplant, animal or mineral-based materials, keeping biomass, sanitary and environmental standards in mind. The careful science and construction work similarly to their traditional counterparts and produce a synonymous result.
The range includes matte and gloss final varnishes, liquid medium for glazes and underpaintings, gel medium for impasto effects, brush cleaner and thinner to be used in the early stages of oil painting.

What is a Biosolvent
Biosolvents come from renewable raw materials and, in particular, from biomass. On the one hand, they have the advantage of offering an alternative to fossil resources and, on the other hand, a positive environmental balance (reduction of volatile organic compounds, biodegradability, and non-toxicity).
These are products of natural origin: derived from vegetable, animal or mineral raw materials. They respect the health and environmental criteria because their design is part of a sustainable development approach.
The raw materials come from oleaginous plants (rapeseed, sunflower, soybean, flax) such as vegetable oils, sugar plants (potato, wheat, barley, oats ...)
Their main functions remain identical to those of conventional solvents. No deterioration of the final product!
