Kochi has a soft feel and an almost felt-like texture, but what sets it apart is that it is entirely unsized. The lack of sizing provides a great degree of ink absorption, making it an excellent choice for relief and intaglio printing alike.

Paper has been made in the Kochi Prefecture for over 1,000 years. There are still over 300 people making paper in Kochi, including many younger generation papermakers who have been trained to succeed their elders in the tradition of Tosa washi.
