Quick Overview

Ugly Mug is a Cuban Thematic Body of work inspired from a trip to Cuba.

In her travels, Lise loves to photograph her experiences. In this particular trip to Cuba sparked a story emerging a body works that she would like to paint and share. The picturesque scenic beauty and impressiveness of the people, including the agony they suffered by the embargo sanction.

She chose to paint this person for she felt he captured the essence of the story she discovered in her journey in Cuba Havana. She wanted to take a photograph of the person behind him for he looked Mystique. She thought he'd make an interesting subject. But this person interjected himself in front of my camera making ugly faces as the story goes…

In her travels, Lise loves to photograph her experiences. In this particular trip to Cuba sparked a story emerging a body works that she would like to paint and share. The picturesque scenic beauty and impressiveness of the people, including the agony they suffered by the embargo sanction. We never stop to think what these innocent people are going through. Hunger, poverty, health impact just to name a few. One person told me that they even had to learn how to make their own toilet paper and discovered how to transformed Aloe Vera fibers into tissue paper. Amazing Aloe is not just good for sores!

I was inspired to paint the Ugly Mug capturing the person pain from the images I took while on vacation in Cuba. I position the image close to the edge of the right side of painting, giving the sense of a wall, representing the frustration and hardship that was imposed on him from the countries embargo.  Seeing deep in his blue eyes I could feel his pain, cupped with this gestured mouth, captured his whole story. The orange shirt perfectly popped his blue eyes and the song dont make my brown eyes blue popped into mind. I hope I was able to doing him justice and tell his story.

These are lovely people and in spite of it all survive and became self sufficient. It just shows that self determination and perseverance will conquer all... She hopes you enjoy her Ugly Mug also.

Lise is please that the Ugly Mug was juried into the 25th Annual National Pastel Society juried show.

Stay tune as she develops a Cuban themed body of works,

Enjoy,
Lise King

I wanted to let you know that I just received my online order of my favourite St. Armand Paper plus markers.  I am so impressed with your service – thank you so much.   I am a member of our local art centre here in Kimberley BC and we have very few choices of where to purchase our supplies.  We usually leave our buying list to when we make our four hour journey into Calgary.   You have made our lives so much simpler.   I will passing on your website to my artist group of friends.

Thank you again.
I will be back.

I do not do large orders often but have ordered with you once before. Your paint prices are so much better than Toronto art stores. If there are any product samples that you want to get rid of, I would be happy to receive them as I experiment with a lot of different supplies. Please save on packaging and send everything at one time. I stopped ordering from Amazon, because their overuse of packaging is out of control, and I prefer to support Cdn businesses as much as I can. Thank you for your great service, I had a great experience with my last order.

Aside from this, I meant to drop you a note after I received my previous order which was also my first. I hope I’ll be able to  broaden the array of items I will order from your store, I wish you’d carry PastelMat paper J

Take care
