Awagamis ‘Fine Art Washi’ are suitable for many fine art techniques such as painting, printmaking, drawing and sumi.
This thin semi-sized Xuan rice paper is half absorbent and less bleeding than the unseized "raw" rice paper. Semi-sized with an application of alum solution on the back or coarse side of the paper, whereas with the fully sized or "mature" rice paper both sides are sized, so it absorbs a little bit but not smear or bleed as the raw Xuan paper. Single ply weight, in cotton white and fine texture, it is suitable for painting flower and birds, figures, animals and landscape painting.
Highly recommended for beginning students as a great practice paper, also for advanced artists to create their showpieces in spontaneous, boneless, Tarashi Komi(dripping water or white into still-drying ink or colour) techniques.

The delicate paper is made in Japan for brush painting and calligraphy. I would recommend it to advanced sumi-e students and other watercolourist artists to use for use of your show pieces.
Traditionally handmade with rice straw and wild vine bark fibers in Jing County, Anhui Province, China. It is made by pressing two layers of thin Xuan rice paper into one. In cotton white and fine texture, it is suitable for painting colourful flowers and birds, animals, as well as landscapes.
With a wonderful bound quality and forgiveness of excessive moisture, it is more absorbent but less smearing than single Xuan rice paper, giving your brushstrokes more depth.
The double Xuan is most popular among artists who come with a watercolour background. It works great for both beginning student and experienced artists in Chinese brush painting or sumi-e.
Both sides can be used for painting, but the smooth side produces the most vivid colours and various tones of sumi ink.
Also can be used as backing paper, perfect for mounting or stretching.
