The fine, clear Quinacridone particles gather and recede, creating compressed pools surrounded by the premixed greys. Highly durable and extremely transparent, all the Quinacridone colours excel in vivid clarity and intensity.

Quinacridone Sienna (PO48, PR209, PY150) Terre de Sienne de Quinacridone

Quinacridone Sienna is the ultimate low-staining glazing pigment, which is finer than Burnt Sienna. For the traditional and purist watercolour painter, it separates yellows from reds, falling on the orange spectrum. Its position on the colour chart designates it as a complement-free pigment, making it easy to modify without revealing a hidden gray.

Quinacridone Sienna performs exceptionally well in damp underpaintings that are overpainted with rich pigments like Indigo or Payne's Gray. The fine, clear Quinacridone particles gather and recede, creating compressed pools surrounded by the premixed greys. Highly durable and extremely transparent, all Quinacridone colours shine in vivid clarity and intensity.

DANIEL SMITH is truly the worldwide leader in watercolours for artists. Its watercolours contain the most beautiful colours of any manufacturer. While all artists rely on many traditional colours, Daniel Smith creates many "truly unique" colours that have become essential to watercolour artists.

PrimaTek Watercolours are made from minerals, often semi-precious minerals, that have been ground into pigments, mixed with gum arabic (the binder), and milled into Them. The first was Lapis Lazuli Genuine in 1998; since then, many more colours have been added, such as Amethyst Genuine, Piemontite Genuine, and Serpentine Genuine. Most of these colours have excellent granulating effects that some artists have called "magical."

Luminescent Watercolours have special optical effects perfect for subjects with sparkle, sheen, or reflective glow, such as the iridescence of hummingbird feathers or the brilliance of metals.

Cadmium Hues, DANIEL SMITH has developed safe and vibrant Cadmium Hues with the density and richness of cadmium colours without the cadmium pigment. Virtually identical in colour to their namesakes, they are cleaner in mixtures and much more robust in tints. The functional properties - staining power, semi-transparency and excellent lightfastness - are nearly identical to those of the low-soluble cadmium colours DANIEL SMITH previously manufactured.

Other Unique Watercolours are created from pigments that DANIEL SMITH has sourced, often from particular locations, such as Burgundy, Yellow Ochre, Monte Amiata, Natural Sienna, and Roasted French Ochre. Some are created exclusively by DANIEL SMITH, such as Cascade Green, Deep Sap Green, and Green Gold. DANIEL SMITH also finds unusual pigments to make colours like Anthraquinoid Scarlet, Lunar Blue, and Enviro-Friendly Red Iron Oxide, providing more choices for artists.
