Matvar 53 is a quick-drying matte varnish suitable for oil, watercolour, and tempera painting. It features a non-yellowing, flexible acrylic resin.

A colourless, quick-drying acrylic resin varnish, Matvar 53® imparts a flexible matte finish to oil, watercolour, and tempera paintings. It does not dull tonal values, and since it contains no wax, it can be painted over. It is resistant to cracking, peeling, and blooming and will not smudge from handling. Brushes clean up easily with turpentine. This matte finish varnish is suitable for oil, watercolour, and tempera paintings.

This colourless acrylic resin varnish provides the artist with a non-yellowing, flexible, transparent matte film when dry. Whether applied to varnished or unvarnished work for an overall matte finish, it will not dull tonal values and may be painted over. Quick-drying and ready for use, it contains no wax and will not mar or smudge with handling. It resists cracking, peeling, blushing, and blooming. Thin and clean up with turpentine; terpenoids cannot be used with this product.

Application: Mix Matvar 53 thoroughly before and while using it to fully disperse the matting agent and ensure a uniform matte finish. Apply with a quality varnish brush to avoid brush strokes and ensure a smooth finish. Matvar 53 is non-yellowing and will not dull tonal values. It is prepared from a clear acrylic resin that may be removed with a mild solvent for later painting conservation. Thin and clean brushes with turpentine.
