Unwrap Creativity This Christmas – Craft More, Spend Less!
This thinner (Diluent) can be used instead of water or combined. It provides an oily consistency, and as it is not forming an emulsion, there is less colour change than there would be with water. This thinner has been specially developed to maintain the oily feel andamp; keeps Artisan colour open longer than water. Although water is suitable as a diluent for the paint, its speedy evaporation can make the colour thicken upon the palette much quicker than conventional oil colour would when used with turpentine.

Description: Winsor and Newton Artisan Water Mixable Thinner 250ml
As Artisan thinner does not form an emulsion with the colour, there is less colour change than there would be with water. Artisan paintings should not be varnished until thoroughly dry (at least six months). Three Artisan varnishes are available – Gloss, Matt, and Satin, depending upon the desired finish. The painting will benefit from being degreased before varnishing. This can be done with either Artisan Thinner or Artists’ White Spirit (mineral spirits). Wipe over the surface of the picture sparingly and leave to dry overnight. Wiping it very lightly over with white spirit allows you to clean the surface from any grease or grime onto the surface. If there was any trace of oil on your painting and you varnished without cleaning it off, the varnish would reticulate into beads where the grease is. The cleaning ensures that the varnish applies well.
Varnishes provide a transparent coating that protects your finished painting from dirt andamp; dust. Picture varnishes are usually removable, enabling the painting to be cleaned in the future. Varnishes should not be used as mediums for adding to the colour.
