If you desire a matte finish, you must first apply a gloss varnish to achieve a frosted look. Apply crackle medium using a brush.

Add an antiquarius allure to wood, metal, paper, mirrors, etc. The thicker the application, the greater the cracking. Drying time will vary based on the application thickness. Cracks may take several days to develop fully. Do not interfere with the drying process by trying to speed up or slow it down. Once dry, apply a final varnish to protect and highlight the cracks. If you desire a matte finish, you must use a gloss varnish first; otherwise, you will achieve a frosted appearance. Apply crackle medium with a brush.
