They come from American flax seeds. This oil is as light and pure as industrially produced linseed oil can be. Use it sparingly to thin oil colours or as an ingredient in traditional painting mediums. Gamblin Refined Linseed Oil is a favourite among artists for oil mediums. It extends painting time and allows for easier layering; following the slow over fast rule, you should subsequently blend more of the slower medium into each layer you create.

True to historic working properties. Safer. More Permanent.

Gamblin's mission is to lead oil painting into the future. This means crafting materials as they should be, not just as they have been. Their contemporary mediums are true to historic working properties yet safer and more permanent.

Painting mediums offer a great deal more than simply extending oil colours. They modify the functional properties of oil colours from the tube, from a fluid consistency for expressive mark-making to a stiff paste for creating thick, crisp marks. Painting mediums also broaden the visual qualities of our colours, increasing the transparency of paint layers and creating a range of surface qualities, from high gloss to matte.

When a painting is completed, all the thought, effort, and emotion that went into it are reflected in the artist's marks. Choosing the appropriate painting medium can be essential to making oil painting your own. With a medium that fits your needs, you can get into the flow of painting faster and stay there longer.

Oil painting mediums should not be used as a varnish or final coat.
