This archival Liquithick Thickening Gel additive boasts a unique polymer formula that thickens acrylic paints and mediums without adding transparency. When used in small amounts, it produces handling characteristics similar to oil or encaustic paint. At higher concentrations, it can reduce paint or mediums to a "cake-like" sculptural consistency. It dries to a matte sheen in 24 hours to 7 days, depending on the amount used.

Directions

Begin by adding a small amount of Liquitex Liquithick to acrylic paint or medium, and mix thoroughly with a palette knife. The appropriate ratio will vary depending on the colour and desired effect.

Proportions of 20 or 25 parts colour to 1 part Liquitex Liquithick will change the handling characteristics.

Continue adding Liquitex Liquithick slowly until the desired viscosity is achieved.

Add only enough for the desired effect, and do not exceed a 1 to 4 ratio, as excessive shrinkage and cracking may occur.

Application

Liquitex Paint Additives are similar to acrylic mediums in that they are mixed into acrylic paint and mediums to alter consistency, thickness, transparency, sheen, drying time, and absorption rate. However, they differ because they do not contain acrylic polymer emulsion and lack inherent binding qualities.
