Liquitex Matte Gel Medium reduces the gloss of tube or jar acrylics, resulting in heavy matte or semi-matte glazes. It is an excellent matte adhesive for collage, various materials, and canvas.

Liquitex Matte Gel Medium provides superior adhesion when compared to Liquitex Gloss Gel Medium and Liquitex Gloss Heavy Gel Medium. It remains translucent while wet and becomes transparent once dry. Thicker applications yield less transparent dry medium films.

Application as an Extender:

Mix with Liquitex Heavy Body Artist Colour to increase volume and transparency while maintaining paint viscosity. Mix with Liquitex Soft Body Artist Colour to extend volume and increase transparency while increasing paint viscosity.

Application as a Ground:

They are recommended as translucent ground (size) for acrylic paint with excellent tooth and adhesion as an alternative to gesso. This will allow some colour and texture of the support to show through. Use as a substitute size for the hide glue size traditionally used for oil paintings.

Wash cotton or linen canvas before use to prevent Substrate Induced Discoloration (SID).

Exterior Murals: If the support or wall is very rough, the Liquitex Matte Gel Medium coat should be brushed or towelled onto the surface before applying the gesso.

Application for Impasto Effects:

Mix with Liquitex Heavy Body Acrylic Colour for impasto effects that dry to a matte sheen.

Applications in Collage:

Makes an excellent glue for collage and decoupage.

Applications with Powdered Pigments:

Use as the binder for powdered pigments to make an inexpensive "student grade" Heavy Body (thick) matte acrylic paint. The pigment must be compatible with acrylic emulsion.
