Winsor and Newton Gum Arabic is to watercolours what linseed oil is to oil paints. Most watercolours utilize Gum Arabic as a binder for the pigment. Adding Gum Arabic to a tube of watercolour paint increases transparency and gives the colour a slight gloss. The Gum Arabic solution is thickened to closely mimic the consistency of the paint from the tube. It’s excellent to add at the end of the painting process to achieve a glossy, wet-looking finish.
